Sea Cucumber Supplements: Natural Wonder Cure For Age-Related Problems?

Posted on March 5, 2024

The humble Sea Cucumber has long played a significant role in Traditional Chinese Medicine for hundreds of years – modern science has just discovered its powerful benefits.

It sounds too good to be true: a natural supplement that provides anti-inflammatory muscle pain and arthritis relief, joint health support, is anti-aging, AND fights cancer cells?! We had to investigate what our Flex Directors have recently discovered and swear by.

The Ocean’s Natural Health Healer

The Sea Cucumber or Cucumaria frondosa has long been considered a delicacy in Chinese cuisine, and for hundreds of years has played a significant role in Traditional Chinese Medicine. However, it took the Western world a while before recognising Sea Cucumber for its wide variety of health benefits: from slowing the growth of cancer cells to reversing the effects of aging and obesity.

This month, we talk to the team behind Bêche Nutraceutical, with fifteen years of sustainability and scientific research backing its products.

What exactly is a nutraceutical?

A nutraceutical is any substance that is a food and provides medical or health benefits, including the prevention and treatment of disease. (Science Direct)

What do Sea Cucumbers have that creates such a powerful medical effect?

Research has shown that Bêche consists of many biologically active compounds (bioactives), which help prevent and cure diseases. These compounds have been shown to slow the growth of cancer cells, stimulate the immune system, ease arthritis and joint pain, suppress inflammation, rid the body of harmful oxidants, and support insulin resistance. Sea Cucumber also contains nutrients such as vitamin A, B1, B2, B3, as well as minerals such as calcium, magnesium, iron and zinc.

“After four years of back pain and countless acupuncture appointments, I started taking two Bêche capsules daily. Within a week my back was noticeably better. At first, I thought it was the acupuncture finally working, so I stopped taking the capsules. Shortly after, my back pain returned, so I immediately started back with Bêche—sure enough, the pain subsided. Eventually when my next acupuncture appointment came up, I was feeling so good I cancelled it. My friends noticed I wasn’t complaining about my back pain or poor sleep anymore.“ — Min N., 40-50

Can Sea Cucumber really slow the growth of cancer cells?

Bêche contains Frondoside A, an anti-cancer agent with saponins that help reduce cholesterol levels, kill disease-causing bacteria, and inhibit tumour growth. Studies have shown that Frondoside A reduced 95% of melanoma and breast cancer cells, 90% of liver cancer cells and 85% of three different types of lung cancer cells. Frondoside A also stops the formation of blood vessels that supplies nutrients to tumors, preventing them from spreading to other parts of the body, and activates the immune system’s natural killer cells to attack cancer cells.

Furthermore, Bêche consists of the fatty acid 12 MTA, which has been found to slow the growth of prostate cancer cells. It also contains acids that reduce the incidence of coronary heart diseases.

How are Sea Cucumbers also antimicrobial and antiviral agents?

Sea Cucumber eggs have been discovered to be antibacterial. Studies have also shown that lectins in Sea Cucumber may be the reason they are such a powerful antiviral agent in fighting Herpes Simplex virus.

Does Sea Cucumber stimulate the immune system and help with anti-fatigue?

Sea Cucumbers contain arginine, an amino acid that is vital to our health for its ability to enhance cell immunity through the activation and growth of T-cells, which are the central regulators of our immune response system. Sea Cucumber also contains collagen, bioactive amino acids and lipids which have all been proven to reduce fatigue.

How can consuming Sea Cucumber ease arthritis and joint pain?

People who suffer from arthritis and joint pain are often deficient in compounds called chrondroitin and mucopolysaccharides. These compounds are abundant in Sea Cucumber along with the legendary Frondoside A, which naturally eases arthritis pain and reduces inflammation.

How does an anti-inflammatory like Bêche help with injury or chronic disease?

The body’s response to injury or disease is to release leukocytes, which results in inflammation. Persistent, long-term inflammation can lead to inflammatory disease and possibly cancer. Bêche is a natural anti-inflammatory because it contains omega-3 fatty acids, naturally curbing inflammation and accelerating the healing process. In terms of healing wounds, Sea Cucumber contains arachidonic acid (AA), which is well-known to help with blood clotting.

Is anti aging in the books here as well?

Yes! Aging is influenced by oxidative damage. Sea Cucumber contains antioxidant substances including vitamin E, vitamin C, phenolic compounds and carotenoids.

What makes Bêche Nutraceutical’s products different from other Sea Cucumber supplements?

Bêche is one of the purest Sea Cucumber nutraceuticals on the market being made 100% from the orange-footed Cucumaria frondosa species rich in carotenoids and found in the cold, clean Atlantic Ocean. Unlike bottom feeders that scavenge the ocean floor, Cucumaria frondosa is a suspension feeder that filters food from the water column. So its primary source of nutrients is the mineral-rich wild phytoplankton.

Bêche carries the organic label. Why is that important?

Since Cucumaria frondosa is wild-caught off the east coast of Canada, it’s naturally organic with no artificial interference or growth hormones that may be present in farmed Sea Cucumber products. It is then naturally processed, so the nutrients in Bêche are broken down into micro-particles, allowing the benefits to be quickly absorbed for full integration and support of the body’s critical systems and functions.
