Our Instructors

Heather Thomas
Always a movement enthusiast, Heather Thomas has been teaching Pilates for over two decades. Her recognition of Pilates’ benefits and passion for the discipline led her to embark on intensive training, completing her full Studio certification in 2002. She later studied traditional Pilates through Benjamin Degenhardt’s 360° Pilates in 2016, and received 3rd Generation Classical Pilates certification with Alycea Ungaro’s REAL Pilates in 2018. Heather is a Lead Educator for REAL Pilates, and conducts multiple trainings in Hong Kong and Singapore each year.
Heather opened Hong Kong’s Flex Studio in 2005, and Flex Studio Singapore in 2023. The studios have become the cities’ premiere fitness destinations and Classical Pilates Teacher Training Centres. Heather also leads annual retreats in Asia, and workshops to empower people to take control of their physical well-being. Her interest in movement and the body stems from decade-long training in classical ballet as a young girl, and subsequent daily yoga practice whilst living in New York City in the 1990’s.
Heather has a strong business background, with degrees from Johns Hopkins University and Columbia Business School, as well as extensive marketing experience with the Walt Disney Company. She has designed and overseen the buildout of eight Pilates studios in Hong Kong and Singapore; her decades in the Pilates industry have led to an extensive network of connections, global resources and a firm belief in the endless possibilities Pilates offers.
“The body WANTS to do the right thing… 99% of the time we fail to give it an operating platform on which to improve. All it takes is the slightest nudge in the right direction to see profound neuromuscular change with just a few reps of an exercise. That’s the incredible honour we have to live in our bodies… we can abuse it for years, yet it will robustly adapt to positive change in order to return to the amazing miracle that is the human physique. Pilates is the embodiment of this potential.” — Heather Thomas, Founder of Flex Studio

Mirei Lim
For Mirei, Classical Pilates represents more than just a fitness practice—it embodies her “ikigai,” the Japanese concept of discovering one’s life purpose through self-reflection and exploration. This philosophy, deeply rooted in her heritage, found its perfect expression when a serendipitous introduction to master instructor Heather Thomas ignited her passion for Classical Pilates. This pivotal encounter led her to pursue certification through Alycea Ungaro’s prestigious REAL Pilates teacher training program, making history as FLEX Studio Singapore’s first graduate with a 3rd Generation Classical Pilates certification.
A lifetime of athletic pursuits laid the foundation for Mirei’s Pilates journey. From competitive swimming in her youth to golf, tennis, skiing, and cross-country running, she has always embraced an active lifestyle. Her practice of Ashtanga yoga since 2000 provided a natural bridge to Classical Pilates, as both disciplines share fundamental principles: mindful movement, precise alignment, controlled breathing, core engagement, and flowing sequences that unite mind and body.
However, Pilates offered something unique—a comprehensive system that not only enhanced physical fitness but also provided injury prevention, particularly for the back and joints. This discovery shaped Mirei’s mission: to share Classical Pilates as a versatile, low-impact practice accessible to everyone, regardless of age, ability, or physical condition, promoting longevity and pain-free living.
In the studio, Mirei’s enthusiasm for Classical Pilates radiates through her teaching. As a meticulous instructor, she creates a supportive environment where clients embark on precise, safe, and empowering journeys toward their health and fitness goals. Her greatest satisfaction comes from witnessing her clients’ progress as they discover their full potential. Committed to continuous growth, she regularly attends seminars and workshops with renowned master instructors both locally and internationally.
Before finding her calling in Pilates, Mirei enjoyed a successful career as a hospitality interior architect. Now, as a proud mother of two young boys, she considers herself fortunate to have discovered her ikigai—a path that allows her to blend her passion for teaching with her commitment to family life.

Joann Ng
Former banker turned Pilates instructor, Joann made the career shift to share her love of this amazing movement system. Years ago, she accidentally discovered Pilates at a trial class, not knowing what she’d signed up for. Joann was amazed by the rehabilitative effect Pilates had on old injuries she sustained as a swimmer and gymnast, which she’d assumed would be with her for life. She was further convinced of Pilates’ transformative effect when she practiced throughout her three pregnancies, and was impressed with how it helped with fluid retention, backache prevention and core strengthening. Pilates also brought mindfulness and body awareness, which she could apply to daily life.
In November 2022, she decided to take the Stott Instructor Training program to deepen her practical Pilates knowledge; in August 2023, she enrolled in the Classical Pilates Teacher Training program at Flex Studio, and is undergoing 3rd Generation certification.
As an instructor, Joann focuses on strength, endurance, mindfulness and awareness. She hopes to journey alongside her clients in the quest for mindfulness and mobility.
